- Built as a twin building to the Food and Fiber Pavilion.
- The Embarcadero was originally used as the Food Exhibit Building for the 1936 Texas Centennial. Built across the street from the Food and Fiber Pavilion and is joined with the Creative Arts Building. A 2004 renovation returned the building to the original 1936 specifications. Along with The Dock restaurant, the renovation rediscovered another food stand and added much needed air-conditioning to the building.
- Currently, the murals on the outside and inside of the building are in the process of being restored to
original 1936 styling. By 2007, the murals should be back on display for the public at a estimated
cost of $3.2 million dollars.
1936 Centennial Guide Description
- The most elaborate display of foods and beverages ever shown at a World's Fair will greet you in the Hall of Foods and Beverages. Across the street from the Agrarian Building, it is housed in a fireproof, air-conditioned building.
- Exhibits in detail follow:
- Beech-Nut Packing Company has included in it's exhibit a mechanical circus. The circus brings to the visitor in miniature all the things that occur under the Big Top. In addition the varied products of Beech-Nut are on display. Southern Rice Industry, indigenous to Eastern Texas and Western Louisiana, has an outstanding display showing the more than twenty ways in which rice may be prepared as a staple food. Dentler Main Products is operating a machine turning out tons of delectable potato chips during all the hours the Exposition is open.
- A picturesque tea gardens features the display of Standard Brands, Incorporated. The several score products distributed by this national concern are attractively displayed in its exhibit. In it's tea garden there is music by a Mexican orchestra and dances by the senoritas from the romantic republic to the South. Standard-Tilton Milling Company with its home office in Alton, Illinois, and a branch in Dallas, is displaying American Beauty Flour. It also has a display of pastries made from this famous product and a cafeteria service.
- The Dr. Pepper Company, an original Texas institution begun in Waco three decades ago, has an elaborate exhibit in a bar for the dispensing of this peculiarly southern drink. The slogan of Dr. Pepper is a refreshment at "10, 2 and 4" for the purpose of pepping up energy. The Brown Crack and Candy Company of Fort Worth and Dallas have an elaborate display of its products ranging from the common soda cracker to the best of high-grade candy.
- A peaceful farm scene is an outstanding feature of the exhibit of Mrs. Tucker's Shortening. Also in the exhibit is a replica of one of the immense plants manufacturing its famous ingredient known to all Southern Tables. From San Antonio comes the top of the viands, foods and flavors popular in the Republic of Mexico, as well as in the Southern section of Texas. It is the exhibit of the Gebhart Company, largest Southwestern manufacturers of flavorings and foods popular in the Latin countries.
